Dublin - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Support the POW's/Anti Internment Protest![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Republican Network for Unity will be holding a protest on the 19th of November, outside the GPO in Dublin, to highlight the ongoing internment of republican prisoners and the POWs situation in Magheberry Gaol. As it stands, Republican POWs continue to languish in a British Gaol on a “dirty” protest. They continue to be locked up for 23 hours per day by their handlers, they get one 4 minute phone call per day (staff levels permitting) They are forced to endure inhumane living conditions while their cells are covered with maggots and blowflies. Anne Owers report had 40 recommendations, number 8 was that the prison service acknowledge that strip searching is intrusive and oppressive and that the “Northern Ireland Prison Service” (NIPS) should implement a pilot scheme of the "Portlaoise model" to help end the protest. We as republicans should intensify our efforts and lobby people hard to have the protest ended by demanding the implementation of recommendation 8 of the report! Please come along and show your support for the protesting prisoners, and those who remain unjustly interned in oppressive Gaols. All welcome! |
