Suicide Prevention

Archbishop Michael Desmond Hynes OMD PhD, secretary, Cooley Environmental and Health Group, visited LIR (Louth Internet Radio) on Thursday of this week to talk on air about his group's 12th annual winter workshop. He was accompanied by Seán Crudden, treasurer of CEHG. Harry Lee conducted an extensive interview with both men. A podcast of the interview will remain available on the LIR website for 5 days following the interview. The workshop itself will take place on 28 January 2012 starting at 14.00 in The Strand Hotel, Omeath, Co Louth. The topic is Suicide Prevention.

LIR is a recent venture by Harry Lee former chief presenter with Dundalk FM 100.  His former station a conventional broadcaster is still on the air and is available on FM up to a radius of 10km from Dundalk.  The new station can be heard world wide on the internet and the sound is tip top.

The purpose of our visit to long time friend Harry Lee was to publicise this winter's Cooley Environmental and Health Group workshop.  The topic this time is Suicide Prevention.  The format of the workshop will, it is hoped, follow the pattern set in the previous 11 annual winter workshops.  However the workshop is open and accessible to all and CEHG is particularly glad to welcome visitors from beyond the borders of Cooley and Co. Louth.  The topic is sensitive this time but it is hoped discussion will be frank.  At this time it is hard to predict outcomes.  If you wish to attend please let us know at least a few days beforehand.

I made a list of the 11 previous annual workshops' themes a few weeks ago and I would like to share the list with members of indymedia. Perhaps readers may discern some kind of emerging pattern?

1. Safety
2. Energy
3. Personal Energy
4. Fabrication Machinery Dundalk and the Environment
5. Organisation and Health
6. Isolation
7. Urban Sprawl
8. Anti-Social Behaviour
9. Bullying
10. Back to Basics - A Plan for Survival
11. Obesity

This year's workshop advertised in this event notice goes ahead on Saturday and places are still available. The Strand Hotel, Omeath, Co. Louth, 14.00, Saturday. Participants from outside the boundaries of the Wee county are especially welcome. Personally I would like to see some of the regular contributors to indymedia.ie there.

..anti social behaviour and bullying way down there at 8 and 9.

Do you not think indoctrinating children into superstitious beliefs before they have the intellectual equipment to reason for themselves is both anti a healthy society and a form of psychological bullying?

Opus, workshop no. 1 in the list was held in 2001, no. 2 in 2002. If you follow my drift you should be able to discern that the workshops on anti social behaviour and bullying are of reasonable recent vintage not "way down there" as you imply. Clever video Damien M. You haven't one about psychiatry by any chance?

..you obfuscate and divert and 'drift' from the issue raised; and impute implication.

I did not 'imply'.
I stated bluntly. 8 and 9 of 11 constitutes way down there in my mathematics.

I also asked a brief and pointed question.
I remains unanswered.

Healthy 'social behaviour' ?

It seems 10, 'A plan for survival' is about damage limitation, denial and the survival of the shreds of your cult; and has little to do with addressing its crimes against the psychological well-being of our people.

And judging by your snaps, No. 11 could be moved up the list of your priorities.

Hi Opus. I hope you had a nice Christmas in your galaxy. I forgot to wish you a happy new year. I hope it is a prosperous one, too, for you and indymedia.ie.

Like myself I discern that you are list sensitive/conscious. When I went to school the subjects were invariably ranked in a hierarchy.

Religion
Irish
English
Maths
Latin
Science
History
Geography, etc.

When I was teaching in the 1960's and 1970's a lot of new subjects began to populate the curriculum with the introduction of the "common" Inter Cert and maths and science jumped to the top of the list in pre-eminent position. I did not mind because I was a science and maths teacher and it helped my case to be involved in subjects with higher status. But, to be honest, Opus, the old hierarchy continues to make more sense to me to this day.

There is no order of importance in my list of winter workshops. The list is a simple chronological one with the higher numbers the most recent. For instance this year's workshop on suicide issues is ranked 13.

I think you misunderstand the intention behind the "Back to Basics" workshop. You will find a summary of that workshop at the link given below. You can also discover there an account of Saturday's workshop, on suicide issues, the most recent of our 13 annual winter workshops so far

Not in my galaxy, no.

Please explain this strange custom of communal glutttony and nuclear-family elevation. Us primitive aliens have not yet developed such devices.

From our observations it appears a celebration of materialist and monetary pleasures, but our technologies have much to learn from you hominids with your sophisticated religious and sectarian warfare entertainments. We are anxious to be educated as to this famous god-particle in your advanced science. Is is true many such can dance on pinheads?

Report on Cooley Environmental & Health Group (CEHG) Meeting in Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth Sunday 4th March 2012 @ 10 AM
The meeting got off to an early start with the agenda dealing with the Workshop held 28th January 2012 in Strand Hotel Omeath on the theme of “Suicide Prevention”...
The meeting heard that “personal experiences of attempted suicide gave a very realistic picture and that this experience enlightens us all to the extreme difficulties a potential can face and still face.
There was anger however with the HSE letting us down virtually at the last minute and requests were made to have them address a future meeting or event. However PIPS got great praise for their efforts reflected through Mr Seámus McCabe their Rep based in Newry area. All felt that this was the best workshop in of this past 12 years and the theme for 2013 Workshop is to be “Mental Health-Peers in Progress”. The Facilitator is to be Mr Dermot Mooney current Chairperson of CEHG.
It was mentioned as agreed at the AGM on 28th January 2012 the Secretary is to ask Prof Dennis Pringle of Maynooth University to become a “Mentor” for CEHG
Meeting Schedule for 2012 as follows to be held in The Strand Hotel Omeath:
Sunday 15th April 2012 @ 10 AM
Monday 14th May 2012 @ 7.30 PM
Sunday 22nd June 2012 @ 10 AM
Sunday 14th September 2012@ 10 AM
Sunday 25th November 2012 @ 10 AM

New members are welcome to attend all meetings.

What exactly does that Most Rev mean??

I know Dr stands for doctor, meaning one qualified to teach, so educate as to the Most Rev bit, if you wouldn't mind obliging.

Could we not just call you Mick?
