Simplistic linear thinking by Rachel from Accounts and the Treasury spawned this Budget from hell, says David Craig. A systems thinker would have known it would send the economy into a doom loop of recession and decline.

Muslim Brotherhood Unleashes Bloody Crackdown In Cairo

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Friday December 07, 2012 14:04author by Elric Report this post to the editors

The dark forces of Islamist reaction have been unleashed in Egypt. Looks like an Islamic State means one man, one vote - one time. Full text at link.

Muslim Brotherhood (MB) forces supporting Egypt’s Islamist President Mohamed Mursi are carrying out a bloody crackdown in Cairo. Amid intensifying mass protests in the past two weeks against Mursi, the Islamists are mobilizing their forces to try to crush strikes and protests.

In scenes recalling the “Battle of the Camels”—when then-President Hosni Mubarak’s thugs attacked protesting workers and youth on Tahrir Square in the initial days of the Egyptian Revolution last year—MB cadres together with forces of the Salafist Call and al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya assaulted a sit-in of several hundred peaceful protesters in front of the presidential palace in Heliopolis in Cairo.

The sit-in began after hundreds of thousands of workers and youth protested, demanding the ouster of Mursi and the cancellation of Mursi’s presidential decree, granting himself dictatorial powers, on Tuesday night. It was one of the largest mass protests against the MB and Mursi since Mursi’s power grab two weeks ago.

According to eye-witnesses, thousands of Islamists stormed the sit-in Wednesday afternoon. They destroyed tents, attacked participants with rocks and sticks, and shouted: “The people support the president’s decisions”, “Long live President Mursi,” and “We will cleanse the palace.”

Egypt Mursi: Showing his true colours

The SWP's decision to call for a Muslim Brotherhood vote in Egypt is coming back to haunt them, writes Peter Manson

The huge mistake of the Socialist Workers Party in urging a vote for Mohammed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party in the second round of the Egyptian presidential election has been clearly exposed by the events of the last week.

On November 27 around 200,000 demonstrators poured into Tahrir Square in Cairo. They were, of course, protesting against Mursi’s assumption of sweeping new powers on November 22. He is now free to take any measures he says are necessary to “protect the revolution”. He has decreed that no presidential decision can be challenged by the courts until a new constitution is established. The same applies to the constitutional assembly, dominated by Islamists, which will be free to write in as many reactionary religious clauses as it chooses.

The Arab spring appears to be turning to a nightmare everywhere. This seems to be a long historical trend where revolutionary outbursts in a very short time end up with dictatorial and brutal regimes a short while later which is completely opposite to the wishes of the people.

It seems for a successful revolution it is necessary for all the people to be continually engaged and intelligent about what they are doing and even a momentary lapse of enthusiasm by the masses is fatal.

There's quite a few people that from the very start said that the idea that "Arab Spring" was designed to produce real meaningful democracy in these countries was simply nonsense.

Many people felt that the term itself was merely Western manufactured marketing slogans to disguise the usual "Colour Revolution" changing-of-the-guard that the US and it's allies have used so many times in the recent past.

From the very start there was plenty of info available showing the web of connections between so-called "Democracy Activists" in these nations and various US based "Think-tanks", already known to be hostile to any real movement Arab Self-determination.

Many of these supposed "Democracy Activists" were funded either directly by the US State Dept and/or various pseudo-philanthropic "Foundations" such as convicted Criminal George Soros' Open Foundation and others such as the Sigrid Rausing Trust

We claimed that the US was simply using the MB as a proxy, and that the whole "Arab Spring" was fake from start to finish. It was simply a way for the US to manufacture the illusion of people-power driven change, without any real meaningful Democratic change ever occurring.

There's no way that the West would allow real democratic movements to take shape - so any nascent movements had to be co-opted by western agents from the very start.

Although many true-believers attacked us for stating this, events have in the end proven us correct.

Anyone paying attention can clearly see that, despite all the bullshit "Democracy" rhetoric spouted by not only Western Media but also their Gov'ts, and Western agents throughout the region ,the US and it's allies have consistently promoted the Religious extremists over any actual real Democratic movements.

So the only people surprised by any of this are those that fell for the Bullshit in the first place.

And as I said, not everyone did.

An American Coup in Egypt? - https://english.al-akhbar.com/blogs/angry-corner/americ...egypt

The Brotherhood sent emissaries to Washington, DC and held talks with prominent members of the Zionist establishment in the city. Senator John McCain (a man to the right of Ariel Sharon), became a sudden champion of the Ikhwan in the US and went regularly on Fox News to promote the notion of a “moderate Muslim Brotherhood.” The IMF (a mere tool of US foreign policy) quickly joined in and promised a generous loan in return for good behavior.

But the Gaza war was the golden opportunity: it would be years before we really know how the Gaza war erupted and how it was managed, but the Ikhwan earned the trust of the US and Israel very quickly. After the savage Israeli war on Gaza, the Muslim Brotherhood and preachers of holy war against Jews – this is the classical rhetoric of the Ikhwan – argued that the Mursi government’s recall of the Egyptian ambassador to Israel is the strongest possible response, very much along the lines of Mubarak’s foreign policy argument. The Brotherhood worked very closely with the Obama administration, and Zionists in the US showered praise on the Mursi government and on the new responsible behavior of the Muslim Brotherhood.

It was only days after the Gaza war that Mursi produced his decrees. And the US reaction was quite similar to its reaction when any of its repressive clients in the region resorts to repressive measures. Worse, the US government reacted in the same way it reacted when protesters first took to the streets against the Mubarak regime. Just as the Obama administration early condemned the “violence” of the Egyptian protesters against Mubarak (and not vice versa), the Obama administration again warned the protesters (and not the regime) against the resort to violence. Zionist media quickly followed suit. The New York Times carried a front page picture of a Muslim Brotherhood activist rescuing an injured person: Arabs widely ridiculed the picture because the Arabic press on the same day carried various pictures of Ikhwan thugs beating peaceful demonstrators in Cairo. And the New York Times has been so pleased with Mursi’s behavior vis-à-vis Israel that it considered the mounting of tents and the scribbling of anti-Mursi graffiti as acts of violence by the opposition.

Plus ca change.

It's no surprise to see Gene Sharp named as one of the top 100 global thinkers
in "foreign policy" magazine 2011

The Elites realise that as long as countries are ruled by iron fisted islamists then they will get what they want and those countries will remain backward and never develop sufficiently into progressive left leaning alternatives to challenge the steamroller of corporate and financial hegemony.

It's no surprise that Libya and Syria were targetted. Neither of these were ruled by sharia. In fact if anything they were progressive, if flawed states leaning in the direction of socialist ideals. Same goes for Iraq. Saddam and the Ba'ath party had a more socialist outlook and did not get on with salafist islamists. Women had proper rights in all three countries. They had to go. The west does not want real democracy across western Africa. Not when they are poised to rape the country for it's resources.

And They want to destroy Iran, for which Syria is an important first step. All this stuff in Egypt is just business as usual. Expect bloodshed before any signs of real democracy.

The irony of the SWP supporting the Muslim Brotherhood today in Egypt, and their associated gangs in Libya and Syria, is the founder of the SWP, Tony Cliff, rightly described the MB as a Fascist group, under the control of MI6. Needless to say, Trotsky himself warned against doing deals with Fascist groups like the MB, and warned against supporting imperialist invasion, passed off as spreading "democracy."
