Here is the text of the letter sent to organisations in Cork to begin the mobilisation for the European Social Forum. The first organising meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 28th August in the Thomas Ashe Hall, 15 Fr. Mathew Quay at 8:00pm.

To _______________________________,

We are writing in respect of the European Social Forum which is due to take place in Florence between the 7th and 10th of November. This will be one of the largest meetings of activists from every part of Europe. The three main themes will be war and imperialism, neo-liberalism and privatisation and citizenship and democracy. Different topics, which are of interest to people from a wide variety of backgrounds, will be discussed across these themes.
These include trade unionists, peace and civil rights activists, environmentalists, anti-racists, community activists and others who believe in the principle: ‘People and planet before profit’.
We are asking you to support the mobilisation of people from Ireland in three ways:

By endorsing the ESF and supporting the Call of the Social Movements.
By sending a delegation to the European Social Forum.
By donating money and helping with fundraising, in order to subsidise the travel/accommodation expenses of people travelling from Ireland.
(It is expected that up to three hundred people from Ireland will attend).

Included are sheets containing additional information as well as a copy of a sponsorship form.

Other groups and individuals in the Cork area are also being contacted and there will be an organising meeting in Cork, (to be convened by Joe Moore, former head of the Cork Council of Trade Unions), at 8.00pm on Wed 28 Aug. The venue will be Thomas Ashe Hall, 15 Fr. Mathew Quay, (between the College of Commerce and the RTE studios. You are invited to send one or more representatives.

Yours faithfully,
Joe Moore (CCTU)
Ted Tynan (Workers party)
Gerard Quinn.(Globalise Resistance)
John Ryan (Peace And Neutrality Alliance)
Michael O Sullivan (Socialist Workers Party)
