Protect the Irish Hare from coursing cruelty

Friday August 02, 2013 00:51 by Protect the Irish Hare

The Irish Hare has endured enough from the so-called "sportsmen" who use it as live bait in a sick bloodsport...
Part of the protest outside Minister Deenihan's office on August 1st, 2013 All friends of Ireland’s wildlife heritage hope Minister Jimmy Deenihan will either not issue a license allowing hare coursing this year…or that, if he has already decided to issue the license the license, he will re-think this appalling decision…
In coursing, hares suffer and die at all stages - during the capture, during the time they are kept in captivity and during the coursing meetings where they run for their lives in front of greyhounds. Among the injuries recorded are broken legs, damaged toes and dislocated hips.
Revulsion…
Hare coursing is not only opposed by a majority in Ireland but also by compassionate people all around the world. On the Care2 website, they have been condemning the blood sport as vile and cruel and expressing support for a ban.
You can read some of the comments from around the world below...

This is a vile 'sport'. Should definitely be banned - Tracey, Edinburgh
I've owned wolfhounds and competed in coursing events, but never with live lure...to catch live prey is no longer a necessity...and should be outlawed - Ellen, USA

Anyone who would participate in this VILE display of animal abuse...needs intensive psychiatric counsel - Valerie, Canada

A practice such as this, universally categorized as a blood sport, should be fastidiously rallied against on all fronts - Christina, USA

Jump To Comment: 3 2 1No one should be dumb enough to employ such cruelty to ANY animal. Nor should this be looked upon as a humane sport. It's not. The world is watching this cruelty. These actions can create more negativity towards tourism.... Wake up folks! Real crappy ..your not coming out of this smelling too good.
Its a wait and see scenario. Has Minister Deenihan got the guts to do his job properly ?.
He must ensure that the worthless rules pertaining to coursing are investigated and those who are guilty of breaches prosecuted.
If not his Department is a joke and the self-regulatory rules are not worth the paper they are written on.
.
No excuse for hare coursing. It exists just to provide pleasure for people who get their kicks from cruelty...
Enjoyable?
Speaking out...
Fun?
Hare coursing is held in the worst of weather conditions...
