Following the annoucement that the "rocky road Picture & Word competition" is to receive funding under the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2002, the closing date for the competition is extended to 1 December 2002, and EUR900 will be distributed in cash prizes to the winners.

Following the annoucement that the "rocky road Picture & Word competition" is to receive funding under the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2002, the closing date for the competition is extended to 1 December 2002, and EUR900 will be distributed in cash prizes to the winners.

The award of EUR2380 to rocky road environmental magazine by the Clare County Council's Environment Section will allow the organisers of the competition to distribute EUR900 in cash prizes. The overall winner will receive EUR200, and three winners in four categories will share the remaining cash prizes. Non-cash prizes will also be distributed depending on additional sponsorship secured. The remainder of the LEPF award will be used to publish the winning entries in a special issue of rocky road partly in colour.

The rocky road Picture & Word competition is not a traditional photo competition, nor is it truly a writing competition: participants will have to submit a photo and a short text on the theme "The Celtic Tiger Years." Photo and text will have to form a self-standing article suitable for publication in rocky road magazine. Detailed competition rules, a sample entry and application form are available on www.rockyroadmagazine.com or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Anne Ruimy, rocky road environmental magazine, Mullagh, Co. Clare, Ireland.

"The prospect of submitting a photo and an article may seem daunting, but everybody has a chance to win," said Anne Ruimy, editor of rocky road magazine. "The judges will not be looking for technical perfection of either photography or writing, but rather for content, ideas, and how picture and text complement each other."

The 2002 Local Environmental Partnership Fund of the Department of the Environment and Local Government encourages people to identify and pursue more environmentally sustainable behaviour, so that action at individual and community levels fully reflects public concern about the environment.

Rocky road environmental magazine has published four issues since its Ennis, Co. Clare launch in November 2001. The fifth issue on the theme "Feeding Ireland" will be out in October 2002.
