'Strike' Post May Day rally lecture. 'Veterans of the 84-85' miners strike will travel to Belfast & Derry to give their accounts of the momentous battle for Workers dignity against the might of Thatcher's police state. David Douglas, former miner and NUM organiser for Durham & South Yorkshire is also a political activist and author who has written extensively on the period. He and other comrades will attend to give a first hand account of what was undoubtedly the most significant political battle in modern English history. With them they will bring the Iconic and beautiful 'Durham Miners Association' (Follonsby Wardly) banner, which was originally made in 1928, depicting amongst other heroes of struggle, Irish Citizens Army commander James Connelly. This promises to be a must see event for all Socialists, Trade Unionists and historians. The Belfast event will take place following the main Mayday march on Saturday 2nd May at the 'Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre'. Hosted by Teach na Failte, the Republican Socialist Ex-Prisoners association.
