Democratic and just societies in Poland, Ireland and Europe
Polish organizations in Ireland are holding a solidarity rally with the events in Poland. We invite all political parties and organizations in Ireland with a commitment to civic freedoms to join us in this positive event promoting full equality and inclusion for everyone. On that day, we want to stand together, above nations, borders and political divisions, in a common quest for a just and democratic society.
On the 7th of May in Warsaw, the members of KOD (Committee for the Defence of Democracy), together with various civic organizations and opposition political parties will march together as a ‘Coalition for Freedom, Equality and Democracy’. While the groups have different agendas and goals, on that one day they unite to say NO to undemocratic practices and human rights violations recently prevalent in Poland.

On that day, we want to stand together, above nations, borders and political divisions, in a common quest for a just and democratic society.
These democratic values are now more than ever relevant also in Europe as a whole. The recent migration crisis prompted a public debate on common European values of human rights, equality and respect for diversity. Radical nationalism is on increase across the continent and we are far away from complete eradication of racism and xenophobia. We ask you to join us in the protest not only for Poland, but also for Ireland and Europe.
We would love to see Irish and international movements and organizations joining us. You can contact us by e-mail for more info: dziewuchy.irl@gmail.com

The event is co-organized by Irish-based chapters of Polish civic initiatives which emerged as reactionary counter movements to the events in Poland:
Komitet Obrony Demokracji, KOD (Committee for the Defence of Democracy) is a civic movement and monitors whether all government activities adhere to democratic principles.
Dziewuchy Dziewuchom (Gals for Gals) emerged as women rights’ grass-root movement in opposition to the recently proposed total ban on abortion
Razem: new Polish political party with a social-democratic program in favor of progressive taxes, open access to health care, restructuring inequalities between regions, installing social housing and reforming education, universities and culture.
