Stand With Palestine: Workplace Day of Action on Naksa Day

Take Action for Palestine on Wed 5 June Naksa Day

The Palestinian trade union movement has called on workers across the world for support to end the genocide in Gaza. In their May Day statement, they called on the international workers movement to block the supply of arms to Israel, build BDS campaigns, make trade unions everywhere Apartheid Free Zones, and to pressurise governments to cease all forms of cooperation with apartheid Israel.

Join the Workplace Day of Action on Naksa Day, 5 June 2024

stand_with_palestine_junk_5th_2024.jpg

We are encouraging all workers, in small and large workplaces, across all sectors, to take action, whether it is deepening and building on existing work or taking initial steps. Below are some suggestions for actions – consider what you can best do in your workplace. Get support from your union. ICTU, most Irish trade unions and trades councils all have strong policies in support of Palestine. If you are in a workplace which is not unionised, you can still take action.

If you are planning an action, please do let us know by emailing us at tradeunions@ipsc.ie thanks

  • Organise a meeting to talk about Palestine. Contact IPSC at tradeunions@ipsc.ie for leaflets and if you would like a speaker or support
  • Organise a solidarity demonstration. Consider a demonstration linking up with other workplaces in your area
  • Campaign to make your workplace apartheid-free and genocide-free. BDS is a powerful and effective act of solidarity, especially at workplace and sector level. Do an audit in your workplace. If you work in the public sector, submit a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. Ask your union to negotiate with your employer to boycott all complicit companies.
  • As an individual worker you have the right not to be complicit in genocide. You can lodge a claim, individually or as a group or through your union, to amend your employment contract to insert a clause recognising the right not to handle good from countries under investigation for genocide.
  • Demand that the Irish government enact the Occupied Territories Bill and the Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill. Make your voice heard on this issue through your union and on the streets.
  • Take action to end the use of Shannon Airport by the US military and the bilateral arms and ‘dual use’ trade with Israel.
  • Make your union an Apartheid Free Zone.

Join the Workplace Day of Action on 5 June. Whether your workplace is small or large take solidarity action. And if you are, please let us know by emailing us at tradeunions@ipsc.ie thanks
