Basque country a problem for IMC Ireland?

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday August 29, 2002 02:29author by pissed off

Repression.

Over twenty premises connected to the Bsaque seperatist movement have been closed down, many of them violently in the last fourty eight hours. Irrespective of whether you support Basque independence or not, this should be a story.

Lots of basque people live here and particpate in the political life here. A party which conservatively represents 10% of them has been outlawed. There is a history of massive state repression, documneted parastatist killings, torture against them. That doesn't ean you have to support car bombs against civilians. It means that there is a situation which stronly resembles our own in rather recent historica times. Someone may even have a view that contibutes something.

An yes, there are things going on in Uruguay, Argentina and Pelasetine. Amongst other places. And there's fuck all about them on IMC Ireland either.

But there's isn't even a link to the Basque Indymedia site on the left hand column, where there is for all the others, a simple technical question which contributors to the site cannot address.

On another point, lots of people are already publishing critcal information in Ireland, how is it that this site, which is basically a portal, doesn't contain links to any of them on the front page? PFC, SF, WSM, SP ..... And many IMCs are like this. Get your act together. If someone posts an article lifted from an organisation the moderatos are down people's throats in a second, but the truth is that there is fuck all fresh jornalism produced for here. Face the facts! Work with the situation as it is rather than acting as if its thebulleting board for a student course in DCU or Rathmines or somewhere....

If you want to see articles on here about the Basque country, Venezuela, or anything else, then WRITE THEM. Don't complain that nobody else is doing the work for you - do it yourself.

What people fail to recognise is that the political and extra-judicial attacks on the political party Batasuna -- if Batasuna fails in its appeal in the European Courts -- will extend to any and all opposition groups in any and all European nations.

No group is safe if Spain succeeds in driving Batasuna underground -- other nations will be emboldened by the Francoist actions.

Republican groups know this only too well, with heavy gangs and false charges and bogus evidence and raids on party offices. It is largely ignored because it's just "radical fringes". But if it can happen to us, it can happen to you. And if it can happen to Batasuna, it can happen to any other group that struggles for social and economic justice.

No doubt, though, there are numerous posters here who secretly and publicly call for such fascist attacks.

But if you drive the party underground, you bring the paramilitary group to the fore, and you reap what you sow.

Batasuna's example shows that the political process simply does not work, and that the state only responds to violence. Is this the message we should be getting? It's the message the states are sending.

Thanks in advance for correcting your left hand index of your web page, as we like to contact you through such index, we would like much to be contacted by the same way.
In regard to the interview of the social newspaper included here, it is quite accurate. That is the situation here generally speaking, and it is turning a lot worse.
Such interview talks about the need of a referendum, that is absolutely necessary (essential) to solve the political conflict. I have worked on a referendum for independence for EuskalHerria for the last 18 months, and it is ready. However, I have a problem, I need ideas in how to implement it, how to carry it out. Keep in mind that under the present circumstances this referendum is absolutely banned by the spanish and french governments. And also is useless to apply it through any of the nationalist political parties, because they would be ilegalized immediately. But it is the only way left to, at least, know what the majority of Basques want for sure. Any ideas? I know it is not your business but am asking for a little solidarity. Hope to hear some comments addressed to my email address. Eskerrik asko (thank you).

We were under the impression that the opening of Euskalherria indymedia was welcomed in a short article in Ireland indymedia.

There were few comments added.

As I have said before i personally believe that autonomy and anarchist or anarcho-sindicalist communities may best be protected within an enviroment where human rights are protected.

I have shortened this lengthy and detailed argument which I´ll not inflict on ye here today
to
auontomy for us = democracy for them.

Free speech and freedom of association are Human rights.

The newest IMC networks ,
Ireland, Jerusalem, Finland, Norway, Euskal Herria and India
have each been tinted with the usual
"in our back yard only" thinking.

Generally Reclaim the Streets actions occur within a six month window of IMC launches.
as so in Ireland Norway and Finland

for obvious reasons not much RTS going down in Jersusalem but i talk to Tel aviv people later today.

and the Basque lands are a very different place.

write your articles
post your comments.
use the oldest indymedia network ever:
the walls of your cities= murals and graffiti.

often IMC´s purposes are more comment exchange then just news.

Think Globally act Locally.
solidarity.

I write from Catalúnya as always
today as for hundreds of years a part of the supernational Spanish state.

I write to IMC ireland in Dublin, the prinicipal urban are of the IRish states.

about it.
Summer was nice.
Hi to THORPIES; SWIMMIES; SINNIES; COMMIES:
Bolshiviks, anarchists, spartie-dudes, Blisset and the tinfoil hat man.
Still alive and love ye all.
give the baskies some support.
whether or not to suppport H.B.
the people need support.
heart and mind.
