Forgot to mention that the forum will be taking place upstairs in the bar.

The SWP is an English based cult. Its most prominent Irish member, Eamonn McCann, is now receiving praise from the hysterical West Briton, Ruth Dudley Edwards, for his attacks on Sinn Fein, -Irelands revolutionary republican organization.'Nuff said.

Eamonn McCann is not responsible for anything Ruth Dudley Edwards says.

But Sinn Fein have Minister in Stormont who ARE responsible for introducing private finance into hospitals and schools.

That was why they didn't blush when the rich Americans gave them so much money.

Wake up Shelta!!!

Is that because if you call it a SWP meeting nobody would turn up?

The leaflet and posters clearly state that the forum is being hosted by the Cork SWP. Will I post a copy for people to check?

Who's speaking at the event? Are there any of the representatives from the NGO groups who attended the summit going to be there?

Yet another SWP covergroup.

Lads, just call it a SWP meeting because that's what it is.

Again, have I not said that this is clearly an SWP meeting and will have an SWP speaker at it.

if the speaker at the meeting has not attended the earth summit, so what. can a group not put across their political analysis if they have not experienced something at first hand?can i not have a valid opinion about what the summit didnt achieve just because i wasnt there. i have only in the last few weeks become interested in far left politics but from what i can see some people just spend all their time attacking the swp rather than the common enemy. wake up!

Straightforward questions:
1. Who is speaking?
2. Were any of them in Johannesburg?
Could somebody who knows the answer to these questions answer them, please.

the Cork SWP is organising this forum, as we are now doing around the country as best we can, to encourage an informal discussion about the issues being raised at the Earth summit in South Africa. Its a change from the big rally type meetings we put on one a month or so in major cities in the past.

So what is being discussed at the forum?, basically will the Earth Summit make any attempt at saving our planet as there are already compromises being arranged to suit the USA and the OPEC cartel in the Middle East OK. So the socialist viewpoint on these issues will be discussed and the speaker (if any) will mostly be from the SWP.

Here in Cork, we hadn't the opportunity to ask a NGO group to speak along side us but if any wish to come along that would be great.

For example, the last forum we organised was on the issue of the breakout from the Woomera refugee detention camp in Australia, as a Cork student over there had been arrested because he help young Afghan kids to escape from the camp, that was the relevance to Cork specifically, remember?.

Now we showed an independently produced video on the breakout and had a good serious discussion on the issues of refugees and the policy of the detention in different countries (being the internationalists that we are). Two people from Australia itself attended the forum to give their views on the fight which gave the forum an extra edge as we had people from that country speaking about the issue that concerned them so much.

So no NGOs as yet will be speaking at our forum and it is openly advertised as an SWP hosted event (maybe I will upload the poster to prove it before Friday)

If any are interested in reading an NGO viewpoint on this conference, there is an article in the latest Socialist Worker, with an interview from a Peter Doran from Derry who is travelling to South Africa for the summit, the URL is posted below

Hopefully I have now answered the questions raised in this thread finally,

Best regards

Eugene
