Billy Brag to play festival
Festival to mark 150th anniversary of the birth of the writer of The Red Flag.
5 May 2002 - Festival starts at 12 noon. Billy Bragg and The Blokes on stage from about 4pm.
The Jim Connell Committee, supported by GMB and Cradle Ireland, present the Red Flag Mayday free family festival and banners parade in Crossakiel,
Kells Co Meath Ireland at the Red Flag monument.
This marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of author Jim Connell in the district in 1852.
Billy Bragg confirmed to play this festival.
The Red Flag song, written in December 1889, celebrates the winning of the 8 hour day at the East London Becton gas works by the Gas and General Workers Union, the forerunner of GMB, in the spring/summer 1889 shortly after the union was formed.
