Day of Action- October 31st
Tony Blair wants to commit us to a horrific war. An attack on Iraq will kill thousands of innocent people, devastate a country already reeling from sanctions and bombing, and further destabilise the Middle East. Afghanistan, meanwhile, is a disaster zone.
Bush's oil and war faction admit this isn’t really about Saddam's weapons. They want "regime change". But it will be the ordinary people of Iraq that suffer from the attack, not Saddam.
Polls show the majority of British people are against Bush and Blair’s war drive. Twelve trade unions, church leaders, Muslim groups, leading journalists, and over 150 MPs are saying, "Don’t attack Iraq".
The Stop the War Coalition urged everyone to demonstrate on 28 September, but also to spread the word. After the demonstration, we suggest that groups organise local meetings to report back on the excitement, the unity and the size of the demo. Not everyone who wanted to come on the demonstration made it, and this protest will inspire millions. Saturday was just the tip of the iceberg of opposition to the war in the UK. We must not let Blair forget it.
The enormous demonstration on 28 September is already forcing Tony Blair to think again. His infamous "dossier", and the attempt to legalise the war drive through the UN, are back-handed compliments to the anti-war movement. Blair had better beware: this massive demonstration is only a beginning... A day of action for 31st October has been announced: watch this space!
