another MOVE member killed
For those of you who don't know about MOVE, I suggest you check out their website at http://moveorg.net/ MOVE's history is amazing, shocking and inspirational. Just last week they lost another one of their members to what looks like a police set up. You may be aware of the case of MUMIA, who is a prisioner of conscience associated to MOVE. Looking at MOVE, we can see how radical theories and organising are much needed - but also how far the authorities will go to suppress them. In these days of U.S hegemony (and Irish govt. compliance), we might do well to take note. also, http://www.eco-action.org/dt/onamove.html http://www.iacenter.org/moveact.htm http://moveorg.net/

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4The person murdered (John Gilbride) was not a member of MOVE. In fact, MOVE members were preparing for an armed standoff with the police because they refused to let John have his court-ordered custody visits with one of the MOVE children. phillyimc as of late has been filled with vitriolic posts denouncing John Gilbride and the court system for ordering (partial) custody rights for someone they said was a complete deadbeat and loser.
In addition, as a model for activists I am bit skpetical. MOVE is a quasi-cult that diefies their founder, John Africa. Oh, and they're homophobic, I think based on their religious beliefs.
Please get your facts straight.

sorry for the error on John Gilbride. An oversight but all info on the case can be found via MOVE site and other news sources.
I certainly do not advocate using MOVE as a model for success. If you read my posting you would deduce that I merely suggested we can learn from MOVE's ideology and history and the opposition to them. Learning from them does not necessarily mean agreeing or following them.
But there is no question of the terrorist state's threat to MOVE. As their website shows, they have already been victimized in May 13, 1995 by what can only be described as a state sponsored TERRORIST ATTACK! And they may be gearing up for another one!
Right now, we(the rest of the world) must put aside any differences we have with MOVE's ideologies and stand beside them in solidarity against the TERRORIST STATE!
