Whats with having two socialist parties

Hi,
just wondering why there are two socialist parties in Ireland, Socialist Workers and Socialist party. Whats the point. Maybe its just me, but wouldn't it make more sense to have one broad socialist party as an alternative to Labour, Sinn Fein and the Greens. They've done this Scotland to much success with the SSP.
