Is this fair?
Remember the Nigerian driver who sped up Henry Street in Dublin. He got five years. I'm not defending his stupid and selfish actions but contrast this with this story on RTE's website today.
A black man who injures several people, some of them seriously, gets five years for reckless driving
A white man whose reckless driving kills a woman gets ONE year.

(13:52) A 22-year-old Dublin man who killed an American tourist when he lost control of his car at high speed has been jailed for a year by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Paul Mulvaney from Seacrest, Baldoyle, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, causing the death of Judith Martin, a 52-year-old mother of two in October last year.
Her daughter, Dina, said there would never be any justice for her mother's death.
Mulvaney had claimed he swerved to avoid a dog in the middle of the road and struck Mrs Martin. His friend supported his story initially before admitting there was no dog. Mulvaney had been speeding and showing off.
Jeanette and Dina Martin, the two daughters of Mrs Martin, were in court to hear the one-year sentence imposed.
Paul Mulvaney and his father Gerard apologised to the Martin family.
Sentencing Paul Mulvaney, Judge Michael White placed his crime in the medium category and jailed him for one year. He disqualified him from driving for ten years.

who just happened to kill a woman while he was speeding and showing off to his friend?
I condemn all bad drivers. The black driver in my opinion should have been charged with attempted murder. he drove a car at great speed into a crowd of pedestrians.
No evidence was given to suggest he suffered from psychiatric problems, indeed evidence was given that he was sane, This was not challenged by the defence.
Many people could have been killed in this attempt at mass murder.
I don't think the white guy should have gotten away with 1 year, I hope the DPP will appeal this.
I'd think it lies in the intent, and though reckless driving can be catastrophic, he displayed carelessness, not murderous desire. Rather, I'd like to have seen him stripped of the right to get behind the wheel till the end of his days than imprisoned, and eventually able to return his deadly habit.
in both of the cases i think they should have been subjected to summary justice at the scene by the those who suffered.

Hanging is too good for them. Now in my day they would have their testicles cut off and fed to the dogs. That's what wrong with the world today no repect for authority. Some people even question Indymedia censorship policy!!.
Nice to know Pat C and the AFA crowd have no mamby pamby notions of crime being a social product. Joe Higgins has the right idea -- more community police on the beat, arresting working class youngsetrs and checking any black people that they have the papers in order.

pedestrians have the right to defend themselves against motorists. many car drivers ignore red lights if the only thing they have to worry about is pedestrians or cyclists.
motorists attitudes can be changed:
kick the door panel of the next car that goes thru a red light or makes an illegal turn onto a pedestrian crossing.
cyclists, carry a chain to defend yourselfs.
reclaim the streets of dublin for safe motorists, cyclists & pedestrians.
