Is that not hypocrisy from Anarchists? Why not support Dáil candidates then?
"Why are you supporting Des in the elections? if elected would he not become a dreaded 'leader' that acts without a specific mandate?"
Don't worry, their "support" won't make any difference!
Perhaps the WSM support Des because he's going to introduce reforms to increase democracy within the Union?
"Des had stood in the election to raise the issues of increasing democracy in the union"
Now, if Joe Higgins were to stand on a platform of committing to abolish the Dail, then he might get some support!
The Socialist Party is a revolutionary party and we stand for the abolition of the bourgeois parliament. All SP candidates (including Joe Higgins) stand on that platform.
ok said that 'we stand for the abolition of the bourgeois parliament'
Well lets hope you wasters do a better job than during Nice, where the sp had as little a contribution as the other 'revolutionaries' of the irsp and the swp. I exclude Joe Higgins totally from the above comments.
The attacks on the SP are politically motivated and are not a genuine criticism of the work the SP did not Nice.
We did poster, we did leaflet and canvass. We played the key role in initiating the Alliance Against Nice. The AAN brought together many left wing activists and distributed thousands of leaflets.
I make no apologies that the SP don't take money from big business and that members are involved in more issues and campaigns than members of other left groups. We will not accept corporate donations, we will not ditch other campaigns for opportunistic reasons.
To attack the SP and then say you're not attacking Joe Higgins is stupid. Joe is a member of our party.
'Puzzeled Protester' I would have thought it obvious that the unions and the Dail are two rather different bodies (to put it mildly). However as you ask, apart from the obvious difference ...
TD's are NOT subject to mandate or recall, union officals are mandated by union congress and there is at least the possability of them being forced to resign by congress.
Joe worked hard on Nice, Most of the SP members did not. This is a statement of fact and not necessarily an attack. It is the same with the SWP who did even less. The LAN 'took' no money either and yet did more work than the SP and SWP put together and they have fewer members. You cannot explain this just by talking about 'attacks' on the SP.
