The next meeting of the Social and Statistical Inquiry Society of
Ireland
is the annual Symposium and it will be held
in the Economic and Social Research Institute, 4 Burlington Road, on
Thursday 18th April, 2002 at 7.30 p.m.

The topic for this year's symposium is Perspectives on Globalisation.
Professor Brendan Walsh, President, will be in the Chair.

Professor Kevin O'Rourke (TCD), Dr. Martin Rama (World Bank) and Ms
Maura
Leen (Trocaire) will address the topic.

What has been the impact of Globalisation? Who are the winners and
losers?
What have been the benefits for both the developed and developing world
?
What can history tell us about the process? These are crucial
questions
for economic and social policy.

In this year's symposium we have three
speakers who have contributed to different aspects of this debate.
Professor Kevin O'Rourke from Trinity College Dublin will provide an
historical perspective on Globalisation, Martin Rama from the World
Bank
will discuss the positive and negative effects of globalization on
workers
in developing countries and Maura Leen from Trocaire who discuss the
future
challenges posed by Globalisation.

Non-members are welcome to attend.
