A budget for the corporations

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday December 05, 2002 14:22author by mac the knife

The banks, financial institutiions and big business have been given hundreds of millions of euros in corporation tax cuts again this year.

This minister of finance just like Ruairi Quinn did when he had the opportunity in government with Bruton and Lowry has given millions to the corporations. This time he has given a huge 3% cut worth hundreds of millions. This is in effect a huge giveaway and redistributes money away from the PAYE sector and gives it to the Rich business sector.

Unfortunately this cutting of corporation tax rates has been going on for years in virtual silence, and not just from the media but from 'socialists' also. The Irish rates of corporation tax are a pittance, a travesty and a disgrace. They are only a fraction of what they used to be. Trade unions should hang their heads in shame for never having a campaign to resist these handouts for corporations. This is an issue that indymedia could help in exposing to the public.
