Trevor Sargent Justifies Damage to US Military Aircraft

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday January 29, 2003 14:44author by Graham Caswell - Green Partyauthor email caswell at indigo dot ie

It highlights a Far Greater Injustice, he says

Green Party leader Trevor Sargent has spoken out in support of Peace Activist Mary Kelly who damaged a US military aircraft earlier today at Shannon airport.

Green Party Leader, Trevor Sargent T.D., who will be at the Shannon Peace Camp on Saturday February 1 and who has spoken with the Gardai at Shannon and with the women who is now in custody having been charged with breaching airport security, said today:

"It is sometimes justifiable to damage property if, for example, a door has to be forced to access a burning house to save life. In relation to the US war effort intent on killing innocent civilians in Iraq, there is in a similar way a
legal excuse for non-violent direct action. A legal case of this sort was won by three women in Britain who damaged a Hawk fighter plane which was due to kill people in East Timor in January 1996."

"Meanwhile the Irish Government is arrogantly failing to comment in the Dáil over the involvement of Shannon in preparations for a war in Iraq, a war which may not even have a UN sanction. Day to day security at Shannon Airport is also deeply flawed. There is really no excuse for this given the revenue Aer Rianta is gleaning from the US Military authorities in landing fees."

"The Irish people who protest against the US military use of Shannon in preparation for war are acting in the interest of constitutional peaceful conflict resolution and are acting to save the lives of innocent people who happen to live on top of an oil rich country which the US wants to control."

These issues have been well rehearsed by the little old ladies attacking a Trident Submarine with sledgehammers in Scotland.
Mr Sargent is fully aware of the Trident process and vocbulalry as is everyone who took an interest in last years thin edge of the wedge with Eoin.
I remember at the time writing that often "little old ladies are best at this sort of direct action".
Is buaine port ná glór na n-éan,
Is buaine focal ná toice an tsaoil.
A tune is more lasting than the song of the birds,
And a word more lasting than the wealth of the world.

trident ploughshare have excellent resources.
and are quite wise.

Do not comment on law unless you deem yourself fit to face cross examination.

Yep, good to hear the peace camp at Shannon is still active, making a direct impact. I agree with the above sentiments. There are many cases of illegal Government acts in history. There are higher laws than the Irish Governments dodgy foreign policies, like international laws on human rights. The Nuremburg principle (after World War 2)signaled the end of obedience as an adequate form of citizenship. These principles remove us from the shelter of authority - of doing what we do because we are told to do it - and put in the roofless territory of individual conscience.
Fair play to those at Shannon peace camp helping to dismantle the war system. Keep inspiring.

no go. not a newswire.
an open newswire.
a cultural historial cyber flow.
no.
Mary Kelly has joined an assembly.
welcome to the assembly Mary.
She has been welcomed.
She has taken a hatchet to a plane.
I have only ever taken a hatchet to fire wood.
I once was tempted to take a hatchet to a tree, but in the end I didn´t.
There are six others in Mary Kelly´s new place in my universe.
Is that cryptic?

Or was it my reference to Solomon´s contempt of court issue at the first news of Mary´s action on this newswire?
the phrase "contempt" of which court?
of the irish state?
does Mary Kelly recognise the full legitamacy of the Irish state?
do I?
or was it my reference to the italian partisan song bella ciao?
the line i awoke to find the invador?
is that cryptic?
or was it yesterday no six days now references to binary and the qualities of prime numbers?

or was it the seanfhocal?
my fifth reference here to Brehon Law?
was that cryptic?

or was it my reference in recent days to the war machine being theorised as nomads to be exterior to the state apparata?

Is Mary Kelly exterior to the state apparata?

Is the US plane exterior to the state apparata?

or was is the reference to old ladies?
Mary is not old.
her fine features are on the home page.
no the old ladies were at Faslane they acheived the precedents.
all the precedents.
Mary like Eoin before for her defence now that she must decide to engage with the state apparata through the courts (will she recognise the jurisdiction of that court?).
She will not engage with the courts without referrence to the old ladies of Trident at Faslane. Under Scottish law their point of engagement was at the triple choice between Guilty, Innocent, No contest.
Shannon is now quorate.
that means an assembly of seven felons.
Mary is not the first.
There are many assemblies of seven.
And many of them have good reason to wish see Shannon discussed no?
I support Mary as I support all the assembly.
is that cryptic?
and I have never described myself as a poet.
I have made reference to a Nobel Prize not poetry.
