Democracy to the people of Iraq

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday February 19, 2003 15:16author by (well, not really)

Article lays bare the notion that the US has any intention of implementing democratic change.

The US plans to replace only the top leaders of the current Iraqi regime. They will be replaced by the US military and the basic ba'ath party structure (that's Saddam's crew) will remain intact in the administration of the country.
Hurrah for democracy!
Long live the ba'ath party!
Twiggy for leader of the world!

The threat of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons from Iraq has pretty much been discounted by responses to Powell's "evidence" to the security council and Britain's "intelligence" report. All the recent warmongering has focussed on the need to save the Iraqi's from Saddam (fair enough) and give them "freedom" (as if). This latter arguement may now be effectively countered by the information in the attached link.

Check the link attached for an article which details the allegations mentioned above. Also check Fintan O'Toole's article in yesterday's Irish Times (perhaps someone with a subscription could paste it up as a comment).
