Mass peaceful protest to the Terminal.
The Irish Anti War Movement and its affiliates are mobilizing for 1st March demonstration in Shannon. Our contingent will be meeting at the shopping centre car park in Shannon at 2pm. After some performances and speeches there we will march to the terminal in the Airport and carry out various symoblic actions, chants, speeches and performances.
The IAWM will steward its contingent and the format for the day will be discussed on the coaches it is running.
The view of the IAWM steering committee is that mass protest/political pressure coupled with union backing for the workers in the airport is key to the withdrawal of facilitation of the US military.
In that context the IAWM does not think a mass trespass for an hour or two, if it comes off, will prevent the continued use of Shannon. Previous breaches of the fence by individuals or a large group as was the case in October had the element of surprise. There will be no such element this Saturday making a successful breach very aspriational.
That said, the IAWM has no desire to impose its format on any other contingent but only asks that its contingent and preparations are treated with respect by others.
