Police ombudsman probes murder of teenage girl

Nuala O Loan has reopened the files into the death of a Portadown teenage girl in 1991. The teenager hitched a lift with off duty RUC man David Beatty, who claims the teenager then mysteriously acquired his personal protection weapon whilst in his car and shot herself through the back of the head.

RUC officer David Beatty claims the 16 year old, acquired his gun, and shot herself through the back of the head commiting suicide, whilst he kindly gave her lift in his car. I remember this case, and remember thinking there's something odd, about it, knowing the reputation of the RUC in those days, I knew it was highly unlikely that the RUC man would be brought to justice. Thank god Nuala O Loan is investigating this case at last.
