Boycott Top Oil Protest

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 19, 2003 16:28author by Boycott Top Oil Campaign

On Day X when the war breaks out, make sure that you make your take effective action against the war. Boycott TOP Oil and come to protest at 2 pm at TOP Petrol Station Amiens Street. Top are refuelling US warplanes in Shannon. If we can hit their profits through a boycott it won't make sense for them to continue to refuel war planes at Shannon.

Boycott Top Oil.
The company which re-fuels the American mili-tary
at Shannon is called Top Aviation Fuels.
This is a subsidiary of Top Oil, a sub-section
of Tedcastle Holdings, part of the business em-pire
of the Reihill family.
Top Oil also trade in domestic heating oil, have fill-ing
stations, and, jointly with Londis, operate a fran-chise
convenience store chain called Londis
Topshop with about 120 shops on both forecourts
and highstreets (some of which are company owned,
some of which are franchise).
Now that war has started there will be a reaction,
thousands will be on the streets. There already is a
genuinely national anti-war movement, the likes of
which quite possibly has never been seen before in
this country, on this issue.
As it grows, it can light candles, it can wave plac-ards,
or it can take action. Imagine the impact if
that reaction spent its energies targeting the inter-ests
of Irish businesses directly profiting from blood in Iraq? This is what we need to do with
the company which is directly fueling warplanes in Shannon, and hence directly fueling war,
all in the name of profit of course.
If we want to build a movement which empowers people through direct action and has a
direct impact on the war machine, what better target?
As it stands only a tiny segment of the anti-war movement are ever going to take “autono-mous
actions at Shannon.
A larger, but nonetheless small number, will participate in the mass direct actions at Shannon.
That is not to say that such actions are not necessary, nor is it to say that potentially more and
more people will become involved in them.
As the movement grows cross the country the question is will it be a move-ment
of protest or of resistance?
No Blood For Oil.

and it is better than the 10 swp sham, but the other US corporations with large workforces in this country are more vulnerable to pressure than top oil.

In fairness the IAWM are arguing for 10minute minimum. I am sure they will be arguing for longer than that tomorrow. Te fact is that this is in the context of consciouness at the moment. We are more likley to get a good responce by calling for 10 minutes thatn we would if we called for a generla strike!

Thanks for the info. I will now transfer all my business for home heating to Top Oil Ltd. It will be a pleasure to do business with them.
