government to support continued use of shannon by US military - EU HQ bugged

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 19, 2003 20:02author by kev

hardly surprising... also bugging devices found in EU headquarters.

the cabinet has agreed the wording of the motion to be put befor eth dail tomorrow for debate. in it they are to support the continued use of shannon by the US military despite the fact that the war has no UN backing. bertie was on 6.01 news defending the position, mumbling some crap. i think he cited germany as an example or something. avoided the question of the majority of people being against this position and of course brought up Ireland's "special relationship with the US" - ie Ireland bends over and I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.

Also in the news, bugging devices were found in the EU headquarters in brussels in the offices of britain, germany, france, spain, and austria - appearently they have been there since the building was built in 1995. suspects are behind the devices are US, Turkey, China or Russia. The bugs were found as part of a routine security check of the building.

If the devices have been there since 95 then it mustn't be that routine to check security... Who here suspects America?
