War Resister Ciaron O'Rilly, will be the guest speaker at a Public Meeting organised by the Sligo Anti-War Movement, in the Trades Club, Castle Street, Sligo., on this Friday evening the 28th March at 8.30.p.m.
He will speak on the subjet 'Resisting the war in Iraq, beating swords into ploughshares at Shannon'.
Ciaron is a long time peace activist. For 20 years he has been an activist and an organiser in the radical pacifist Catholic Worker and Ploughshares movements - inspired by Doroty Day, Daniel and Philip Berrigan.
He spent over two yars in jail in Australia, England, New Zealand and the United States for non-violent resistance to war and war preparations. He was part of the ANZUS Plowshares Community that disarmed a B-52 Bomber in New York on the eve of the last Gulf War - spending 13 months in US prisons as a consequence.
Most recently he was arrested and jailed for the "Pit Stop Ploughshares" disarmament of a U.S. navy war plane at Shannon Airport.
