Actions in Massachusetts
In Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston), there resides a diverse group of people. On the morning of 20th March, a billboard on top of the Bella Luna restaurant on Center Street looked a bit different then the previous day.
On the board was a can of Campbell's soup. Not just any Campbell's soup but “Campbell's Civilian Death Soup” and, to the left of the can in white letters, the slogan “Just like dad used to bomb” on the tomato-red background.
The transformation was achieved by “Johnny Revolt” and a group of artist activists. “Desperate times call for desperate measures....” he said in a phone interview.
The group had previously attempted to rent billboard space for an antiwar war theme but were turned down.
The change was done digitally from photos then printed and posted on the original billboard image, in about 15 minutes time.
The life of the new soup was cut short as a scheduled work crew was on it’s way that morning to change the area’s billboards.
More actions are planed.
