120,000 more Coalition troops for Iraq, lots of lovely overtime in Shannon

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday March 28, 2003 11:47author by Labour and SIPTU activist

The Labour Party and our Trade Union officials and shop stewards could close Shannon if we really wanted to.

But we will not as most Labour members agree with Tony Blair and see the need to restore western civilisation to Iraq.

But I totally agree that our party has the trade union clout to close Shannon, the vast majority of Union officials are party members. However the leadership of the party will not back this so there is no point putting pressure on prominent party union leaders such as Des and Jack O Connor as their hands are tied even if they wanted to help. The most they will do is make a statement or take part in tomorrows march but there will be no practical help. The party wants to have it both ways and to appear to be opposed to this US war which some brothers in the party oppose but many others support unfortunately.

They claim to support strike action against the war but they opposed a lobby of the ICTU conference.

none of them have stopped the flow of killers going through Shannon Warport. The unions, SF and Labour have the power to stop it though.

Fat, middle-class, stalinist, bureaucrats, like Rabbitte and Geraghty are part of the system, part of the problem, and cannot be part of the solution.
