To the government of today.

Just listen....

Add to these ideas please....

One of my close neighbours has a child he adopted while serving with the Irish Army in the Lebanon. He was serving as a commander with the Irish peace keeping forces and entered a building that had just been bombed. In the corner of one room was a lone child whom he took in his arms and brought back to Ireland. The child’s whole family had just been decimated by the explosion but he now has a great life with his Irish parents here in Ireland.
We are all being affected by the current war in Iraq to the point that it is very difficult to concentrate on our normal duties. Knowing that we do not have the size of economy to collectively rebel against the US and British war industry; there are a number of questions I would like to pose to the Irish government of today.
How long do we have to wait now in Ireland before we can begin adopting and securing asylum for children who are being made orphans in Iraq? Is it within our power to really protect these children and their families in Iraq? Can legislation be brought speedily up to date to allow Irish families adopt Iraqi children?
I think we all should make a clear statement that we do not support this war in Iraq and that traditionally our part in foreign conflicts is the role of peace keeping.
In the current political climate, shall we be permitted to re-elect a new government from all those politicians who sincerely feel for the people of Iraq? How long will this take and which politicians will join together from all the different parties? Will we forever use a parliament that is a carbon copy of Westminster – that of the past colonial power who continue to interfere in our lives with for example the monitoring of all communications.
We should send out a warning to this uncaring Irish government that they will be getting basic training in ‘de-mining operations’ before we send them to regions where they have permitted the war crusaders - via Ireland - to plant mines and wreck havoc on foreign peoples.
We are the people of Ireland and being one of them I know how big we are. 100,000 of us from a massive spectrum of politically motivated people in Ireland and of all nationalities marched for our rights in Dublin to show that we offer protection for our children and those of foreign lands. We were not listened to as the government stuck with the US and British in their unilateral attack on Iraq. They don’t listen if we cry for peace! They don’t listen if we die for peace! So what must we do? We are frozen and we ask you to help! We all have consciences and the power to do good, it resides in us all and I ask YOU to be part of the solution not part of the problem. Please help culture to evolve rapidly and help save humanity.
Where are the stealthy Mac Evaddys in our country and how long before these war industry figures and unknown evaders are exposed and served their marching orders? Apparently some of our government’s key TD’s have been associating and even holidaying with Mac Evaddy who is a key player in the arms industry both here and abroad. They think they are really smart but they are just worthless inhumane beasts that need serious community service in the coming times. I volunteer to be a field officer and ensure that when these real criminals are put to work that they will not get cold feet as they de-mine in foreign lands.
We can also put these ruthless and unprincipled government officers, servants and their colleagues to work cleaning up the depleted uranium in Baghdad and other Iraqi towns and villages. They can also help to distribute the necessary medical supplies to treat Iraqis suffering from the effects of the nuclear waste that is being dropped currently on Iraqi soil and which has been dropped in the previous Gulf War with horrifying effects. Let the poor people of Iraq suffer no more in our name. PLEASE play your part in this fight for a better world during these atrocious times! The least we can do is to withdraw military facilities to the US without further delay. Please stand up with us now and you can help us to reclaim respect for our nation. Now for the future! Don’t forget our past, our present or our future. Ireland can be among the best and greatest nations of the world; a real role model! There is no room for careerist politicians in today's brutal world!
Please respond to my letter and share your views with me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours truly,
Bearrah

Ahern and Harney are the political leaders of the comprador/gombeen class. Their economic and political policy is to integrate Ireland, North and South, fully into Anglo-American imperialism. Calling on them to do this, and do that, etc. Asking them to act in some kind of anti-imperial manner is foolish. They will not. They are key collaborators with Anglo-America. This is the meaning of Shannon as a war port,... and cannot be separated from other policy positions, such as the 'North' and social policy.

Interesting. Who the provides their social base? Why support a project to integrate with anglo/american imperialism?

Would Lenin's concept of a bought-off labor aristocracy be relevant here?

Students walking out are not going to stop the war. Workers action could, at least, stop Irelands participation it.

The SP claimed to be fighting for workers action, and counterposed it to direct action (which incidentally drove 3 us airlines from Shannon).

However when they had a perfect opportunity to lobby 400 trade unionists from allover the country, they dodnt just fail to turn up; they also voted against such a lobby at the IAWM meeting the previous Sunday.
