Reports are reaching us that Cork City Council are about to evict a number of travellers this morning from the official halting site at Ballinure / Mahon on the southside of the city.
It is understood that these families are about to be 'moved on' because the Halting Site is full and their caravans are parked outside the official parking bays. The City Council has failed to address the situation for many years and the number of proper halting sites is totally inadequate due to the council's ineptitude, government neglect and discrimination and objections from the "settled community".
A number of members of the Cork Peace Alliance are on their way to support the travellers. It is also understood that one woman has removed the wheels from her caravan to prevent her home being shifted.
