The American peace activist and environmentalist Mr John Reese, will address a public meeting on the subject of Palestine, in the Sligo United Trades Club in Castle Street, Sligo, this evening (Friday 23rd) at 8.30.p.m. The meeting is being held under the auspices of the recently established North-West branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Mr Reese, who is a hydrologist and environmental consultant by profession, is currently on a speaking tour of Europe having just completed a tour of 40 cities across the United States. He intends to return to Palestine following the tour.
Last year Mr Reese worked with the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine and collected significant information on the environmental effects of the Israeli military occupation.
In the period since Mr Reese left Palestine a number of international volunteers working with the International Solidarity Movement have been killed or wounded by Israeli soldiers. Last November the Irish peace activist Caoimhe Butterly was shot in the leg while she worked as a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement in Jenin.
