A show of solidarity with Italy IMC was held today (saturday) in London, UK. Near 50 people gathered outside the Italian embassy with banners saying "Tell The Truth" and "Siamo Tutti Indymedia" ("We are all indymedia"), with drums and press statements, making a peaceful gathering.
A3 posters of the 'Siamo Tutti Indymedia' were attached to the pillars of the embassy and on the doors with art tape - and video (VHS) tape was tied across in front of the door to the embassy, to represent the videos seized in the repressive raids in Italy recently. Statements from Italy Indymedia and the Italian association of jurists were distributed about the repressive nature of the police raids, and pictures of the banners and tapes were made.
Solidarity for all free and independent media projects is essential at this moment in time, and for Italy even more important now.
The police arrived in small numbers and were very violent to the people there, punching them in the faces and throwing them onto the ground. Banners were stolen and two people arrested.
People tried to be calm and to say to the police they were being watched by video and cameras, so to stop being aggresive. When more different police arrived these wer e more peaceful.
(the Indymedia uk website site is not live at them moment and many other imc sites too, and so I report here now)
For a free and independent news network - solidarity!
