As in the title, does anyone know what the 'Irish Socialist Network' is? I've noticed it on the Socialist Party posters in town for the demonstration but thats the first I've heard of it.

The Irish Socialist Network (ISN) are a small group that were members of the Workers Party and DL. As far as I know they left at the time of the merger with Labour or soon before it. I havn't been talking to them directly but from what I can gather they describe themselves as Marxists. They backed the Socialist Party in the last election but have many fundamental differences with us.
You should come along and have a chat with them.

The ISN is a small new organisation made up mainly but not exclusively of former members of the Workers Party and/or Democratic Left. It was formed last year and its primary goal at an initial stage was to reactivate the large numbers of former WP/DL members who had remained commited to radical socialism but hadnt stayed with the remnant WP or moved right into the Labour Party a la DL. ISN members have been active in the recent Abortion Referendum where we covered the Finglas East area for the Alliance for a No Vote and the general election where we worked for Clare Daly of the Socialist Party in Dublin North. ISN members are also involved in the activities of the Ireland-Palestine Soidarity Campaign. The ISN has recently been meeting with various other left organisations to try to progress cooperation on the radical left and to break down sectarian attitudes on the left.

I hope that the "Day of Action" is a success. Just one question, are the IPSC involved?

Clarification required, please. What do you mean by marking this anniversary - are you condemning the state of Israel? Are you calling for the withdrawal of Israeli troops? Are you demanding an end to Sharons brutality? Are you supporting palestinians?
Your post is a bit vague.

We have clearly stated on our posters that we are calling for an end to the occupation.

THe stance of the Socialist Party/CWI is clear and well documented on this site.
We will be calling for among other things,
*An ending of the occupation of Palestine
*A genuine democratic national liberation movement for Palestine
*An independent socialist Palestine alongside a socialist Israel as part of a voluntary socialist federation of the Middle East.

The day of action will include speakers, Joe Higgins TD and a Socialist Youth speaker will speak. people have also been invited to speak from the Palestinian community in Ireland. ISN will of course speak if they so wish.

Speakers include:

Joe Higgins T.D.
Ireland Palestine Solidarity Group
Irish Socialist Network
Socialist Youth Speaker

The 'day of action' was called in resonse to a call from the growing Peace Movement in Israel for international solidarity action on June 8th, each event working with their own slogans and demands.

The demands of SY / SP are clear as stated above.

We would encourage as many people as possible to get along, also there is a SP public meeting on Wednesday 12th June at Wynnes Hotel, 8pm where a member of our sister party in Israel will speak along with Peter Hadden, Secretary of the Socialist Party in Northern Ireland who has written extensively on the National Question.
