Heavy handed response from Gardai Here are some pictures of the antiwar protest in Shannon earlier today. The non-violent nature of the protest was not reflected by the heavy handed nature of the Garda response. At one stage one of the speakers, Thuria from Iraq, was unnecessarily manhandled by Gardai. Despite this protesters managed to stage a sit down and later a lie down protest.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5I could not attend the march as I am banned from Clare, but the report I heard was that one person was arrested at the protest. I spoke to Eoin Rice (the Black Pope), and I gather that he was cornered by two men from the Special Branch for parking near the airport in his car the night before the blocade. They harassed him for several hours and wouldn't let him drive away. He went to sleep for a while and when he woke up there were about ten branch men there, peering into the car. They actually had tried to search his car at one stage and he informed them that they didn't have a warrant. They ended up breaking one of his windows in a fit of annoyance. They still hadn't charged him with anything after he woke up, as they had no basis on which to do so. So as far as I understand, he reversed his car in the normal way to leave, and they arrested him on a charge of "dangerous driving"!
I saw Fintan this afternoon, and he was well. Conditions are grim, even by Limerick Prison standards, but he is getting by fine and was upbeat about the blocade. He is getting considerable suppport from other prisoners, who were happy enough once they realised he was serious about his stance. Some warders are also morally supportive. He sent his solidarity to all involved and his thanks to all who have sent letters and cards expressing support.
Later, after vigilling at the Clare/Limerick border, several of us went to the prison to do another vigil. A bus from Cork stopped by and the Cork crowd got out and did a wonderful protest outside the jail. They were fantastic and their enthusiasm and energy was infectious. We need more like them in the movement. But then, we all know Cork people are the best. I'm not biased.

Saw at least 20-30 cameras yesterday. Where are the rest of the photos.
"Where are the rest of the photos"? Why are you asking us? Most people would not have them developed yet, and not everyone who took photos would also access indymedia. Of these only a fraction of the photos would be worth looking at, many would be badly composed. We definitely don't need to see every photo taken on the day, that would only clog up the site, and most would be repetitive. You could always take your own.
It was more of an open question, and not aimed and anyone in particular. Including your 'us' that you seem to feel comfortable associating yourself with. And I would of taken photos if my hands wernt full on the day. champ
