Manufacturing "Green Machines"?

Workshop to explore the chances of starting an industry based on the manufacture of "green machines" for harvesting renewable energy from the natural environment.

A workshop is defined in Collins English Dictionary as:-

"A group of people engaged in study or work on a creative project or subject: a music workshop."

Participants in the CEHG (Cooley Environmental and Health Group) fourth annual Winter Workshop will include Tommy Connolly, Jack McQuillan, Peter Mulligan, Larry Staudt, Eric Hynes and Sean Crudden.

The theme of the workshop this time is "Fabrication, Machinery, Dundalk and the Environment."

Tommy Connolly is a former player, manager and assistant manager with Dundalk FC. He also coached a number of underage Irish international teams. Currently an instructor with FAS, Tommy will deal with training and the quality and quantity of engineering skills around Dundalk. Tommy was a participant in the last workshop ("Personal Energy") organised by the CEHG when he gave a lively presentation on personal fitness.

Jack McQuillan is a journalist with The Argus and he is a former personnel manager with S&S. He will deal with the history of Dundalk Engineering Works.

Peter Mulligan is one of Bellurgan’s most famous sons (if not the most famous). He will deal with customer care and will detail his travels all over the world to install and service the large box-making machines manufactured in Dundalk by S&S. A former foreman fitter with S&S Peter has kicked ball with Bellurgan United AFC and is currently President of Dundalk Rugby Club.

Larry Staudt who participated in the last two CEHG workshops will talk in this one about "green machines" especially the prototypes developed in recent years in the renewable energy department of Dundalk Institute of Technology. Larry is the manager of that innovative department in DKIT.

Eric Hynes, a founder and director of the Hynes Brothers Furniture Manufacturing Company, is a former Captain of Greenore Golf Club and also served as President of the Club for a number of years. He defeated all the leading Irish professionals in a famous Pro-Am held in Greenore in the 1970’s and his perennial skills shone again this year when at the age of 74 he was the outright winner of a Singles Competition in Open Week at the Greenore Golf Club. He will deal in the workshop with the business philosophy of Hynes Brothers and how their furniture manufacturing firm got off the ground (in the early 60’s?).

Sean Crudden who is Treasurer of CEHG will act as facilitator of the workshop as he has done for each similar workshop held since 2000.

The workshop will commence in The Strand, Omeath at 2.00 p.m. sharp on Saturday 31 January 2004. Those wishing to attend as observer/participants should contact CEHG through their web-site www.cooleyehg.com or alternatively contact Sean Crudden.

Unfortunately CEHG, despite efforts going back over several months, have been unable to find a speaker who is able and willing to address in public the topic of "Public/Private Partnership" (as an introduction to the workshop). However the search continues and a suitable speaker will undoubtedly be found before D-day.

Line-up Complete
The search for an opening speaker for the workshop - "Fabrication, Machinery, Dundalk and The Environment" - is over at last!
Caitriona O’Brien, Communications Manager, Central Public/Private Partnership Unit, Department of Finance, has agreed to open Cooley Environmental and Health Group’s Winter Workshop "Fabrication, Machinery, Dundalk and The Environment." As already announced the workshop will take place in The Strand, Omeath, starting at 2.00 p.m. on 31 January 2004. This arrangement completes the line-up (already announced) for the workshop and the arrangement was facilitated for the Group by Seamus Kirk TD.

Ms O’Brien will be the first speaker at 2.00 p.m. and she has volunteered to bring written information about Public/Private Partnership for everyone at the workshop.

Speaking on Friday, Sean Crudden, facilitator for the workshop said, "This is great news - because we experienced great difficulty searching for a speaker on the topic of Public/Private Partnership. It also helps significantly in redressing the obvious gender imbalance in our already announced line-up of participants/speakers."

Mr Crudden continued, "There’s many a slip betwixt cup and the lip so let’s hope Omeath is not frozen-in or snow bound on January 31st. However - unusually for me - I am optimistic that everything will go well and I hope that everyone will be able to relax and enjoy the event."
