Latest news from the campers...(sort of)

Peace Camp Report.

As of Monday the preparatory camp was up and running somewhere in Limerick, with some heads from Galway and Ennis down. Last night more people arrived from Belfast and today the DGN bike crew should be landing very shortly…

Directions to get to the preparatory camp are here: http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=65523

On Thursday, given a critical mass of people, we should be establishing the peace camp proper in the Shannon area. Meeting point is one pm, Limerick train/bus station.

The phone number to contact the camp is: 087 2450032
Use this if you are coming down early on Friday or late on Thursday. Details will be announced at the Friday night demonstration in Shannon as to the camp’s location – so if you are going to the demo. first you need not phone.

Move the tents back from the fire a bit - yis'll burn the crap out of them. A spark at the wrong time could do terrible things.

P.S. Be down Thursday

The Peace Camp is back and it is being set up as I write this.
Directions to the Peace Camp:
Get on to the dual Carriageway heading to Shannon (and stay on it!) after you pass Bunratty keep a look out for the slip road to Sixmilebridge.
Literally between this slip road and the dual carriageway is the site of the new peace camp.
If you are going out park on the side of the dual carriageway well in on the side we would not want to annoy or give the Gardai an excuse to hassle you!

See you all there soon!

We had some minor hassles, on the way out, one car was stopped and detained by police at the parkway but allowed to go through. Closer to Bunratty the van with the camping equipment was thoroughly searched but got through after about an hour or so. Beautiful weather for it, except for the strong wind which challenged some people's (ok my own!!) tent skills, which have gotten rusty since my scouting days.

Loads of media attention, Dermo's got a small piece on Sky News Ireland, and some more coverage of the camp also on TV3 and TG4. The English Times Newspaper will also be running a piece on it.
No sign yet (as I write) of any intentions to break it up, and we had a good position to watch the huge security force buildup, armored personel vehicles, troops and tanks.
