SF soccer tournament highlights drug abuse

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday June 17, 2002 14:17author by Mc Jack

Sinn Féin is organising a soccer tournament for young people in the Farranree area of Cork this Saturday. One hundred and fifty young people are registered to take place in the one-day tournament in Pophams Field in Farranree, on the north side of Cork City.

"Much is talked about the lack of services for young people," said local councillor Jonathan O'Brien. "We feel that the best place to organise events for young people is in their own community. With all the interest in the World Cup, it seemed an obvious idea to hold a soccer tournament. We have been overwhelmed with the response.

"All young people will get a medal for participating. The best player of the tournament will be presented with the Alan O Connor memorial cup by Alan's sister Gillian."

Pophams Field used be the centre of the community in Farranree, with soccer and football played there and a playground for the younger children, said O'Brien, "but it has been misused in recent years".

Alan O'Connor was a young man from Corks North Side. He was a keen athlete who tragically died when he abused solvents for the first time on Easter Saturday night 1983. "The circumstances of his death should act as a timely reminder to young people of the dangers of drug abuse," said O'Brien

Will Sinn Fein's friends in FARC be coming along to push drugs to all the little soccer players?

I have many political differences with the Republican Movement, having said that I believe that to suggest that they condone the drugs trade is wrong. I don't believe that we should condemn any organisation on the basis on reports in the establishment media.

More worrying is whether SF is involved in shootings of drug dealers or users. I know the problems but the death penalty is no answer. (or kneecapping etc) I don't know how much SF is or aren't involved but something smells. If the RUC or the cops shot a dealer we know how we would react. Either way punishment beatings and shootings are one of the unmentionables on the left and now in mainstream media.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) do not manufacture or sell drugs. They used to allow peasant farmers to cultivate coca in the territory they controlled, then taxed these farmers and used the receipts to build roads, hospitals and schools, as well as to fund their ongoing fight for justice. The people who turn the coca into cocaine are allied to the (corrupt) Government, the right-wing paramilitaries and the army. The chemicals needed for the manufacture of cocaine are exported from the US to Colombia (the US Government knows this and does nothing to ban the trade). Financially, the main beneficiaries from the cocaine trade in Colombia are the paramilitaries and the Government. FARC's contribution is negligible.

And the Tooth Fairy will come at night and leave something under your pillow for you in exchange for your teeth. She is a friend to the Easter Bunny, who gets up really early on Easter Sunday to hide Easter eggs for children to find. They both support the actions of Santa Claus, who also works in the cover of night, sliding down chimneys to deliver toys to all the good little girls and boys the world over, and to leave a sack of coal for the bad ones.

Sinn Fein - the left wing anti-drugs party.

Free the Weed or lock up the weed smoker?

Still, what else would you expect from the Catholic Gaelic fascists?

SF's idea of drug rehabilitation is a baseball bat!

SF are not seriously against drugs, where SF have got involved in genuine anti drug community groups thay have ruined them. They play down the need for mass action and tell people to trust their IRA vigilantes.

SF/IRA are in fact involved in drug dealing etc. They use their 'vigiliante' groups not to stop drug pushers bt rather to beat up users who do not pay SF dealers in time.
