Rally Against Violence Against Women and Children
Foyle Women's Aid are calling a rally against violence in the home on
Caroline's Day, Monday 24 January at 1pm at the Guildhall, Derry.
All who are opposed to violence and abuse in the home are urged to come
and show their solidarity with the hundreds of women and children in
Ireland every year who continue to suffer appallingly high levels of
violent assault and murder.
Speakers at the event will include Angela Hegarty, Senior Lecturer in
Law at UU Magee, and Monica McWilliams, Professor of Women's Studies and
Social Policy, UU.
Issues addressed will be the abuse by violent partners of European and
International law, such as the Hague Convention, enabling them to trap
partners and children in abusive situations.
Relatives of women and children who have been affected by the Hague
Convention and relatives of women murdered by their partners will meet
with the Mayor of Derry, Cllr Gearóid ÓhEara.

Jump To Comment: 1Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mayor of Derry, Cllr Gearóid ÓhEara, a member of Sinn Fein? And didn't they use a great deal of violence against women and children (and men) not so long ago. I think I smell some hypocrisy here.
