Party accused of running 'Fascist' in East Antrim

category antrim | politics / elections | press release author Tuesday May 03, 2005 15:56author by SP Report this post to the editors

Rainbow Dream Ticket stands fascist

Jim Barbour, Socialist Party candidate in Belfast Laganbank, demands that the 'Vote for Yourself Party' withdraws its support for its “fascist” candidate.

Jim Barbour said; “The “Vote for Yourself Rainbow Dream Ticket” are running in six Westminster constituencies presenting themselves as a harmless and humorous side to the election. However this is no “dream” ticket and their slate of candidates is no laughing matter.

“The candidate for East Antrim is a local fascist, David Kerr. Kerr was a member of the National Front in the 1970s. More recently he has been a spokesman for the far right “Third Way” fascist splinter group. He stood for them in the 1994 European election.

“Kerr is a thinly disguised racist. Recently he has written articles attacking the idea of “multi culturalism” and has attacked governments for making concessions to ethnic minority groups. “In South Belfast, where I am running, we face a serious problem of racist attacks some of which are orchestrated by the small fascist groups that are trying to get a base here.

“These people have no political support whatsoever and do not stand under their own banner. The Rainbow Dream grouping has done us all a disservice by allowing a fascist to run on its ticket. “I am demanding that they immediately withdraw their endorsement of David Kerr so that the people of East Antrim are aware that they are being asked to vote for a fascist.”

I'm in south Belfast (hence the name) and I intend to vote for Jim Barbour even though I'm not a Trotskyist of any description.

I'd thought the Rainbow dream ticket party were not in anyway a credible party, but merely following in the footsteps of the natural law party, and lord sutch back in the day.

It doesn't surprise me that a fascist would try to hitch a lift on the coat tails of the naive. But don't think that the Brown Menace is going to come to power in Belfast any time soon.

The Rainbow people should be asked precisely what their stance on the racism problem in Belfast is, and if the allegations against this Kerr person are true (the world being the way it is, they probably are) I'd suggest they review his candidacy.

On 050505 – vote for yourself for a change

HERE we are again, same old, same old election time. On May 5th the people of East Antrim have an opportunity to vote for a change from the
virtual tyranny of the professional politicians who have subverted the Westminster model of British democracy.

The political parties will claim that their vote gives them a ‘mandate’ for every policy in their political manifestoes, despite the fact that few
voters ever study them in any detail. The politicians of one party will rubbish all the policies in the manifesto of the others, even though their own vote amounts to a minority of the electorate. This is the climate
in which party leaders impose their bureaucracy; send our young men overseas to war; construct an intrusive police state at home; and impose double
taxation on essentials for life like water. This is poligarchy – government of the people by the party for the politicians – not democracy!

It’s time to give the politicians their redundancy notices. The Rainbow Dream Ticket allows voters to vote for yourselves by giving you a say on the issues in the manifestoes of the political parties. You can tick the
policies you like from any candidate across the party lines. The Vote for Yourself candidate, David Kerr, is standing in this election to draw
attention to the fact that the ‘democratic’ Emperor has no clothes.

David Kerr is a founder member of the Third Way: a political group that supports Direct Democracy on Swiss lines. He is a regular contributor to Third Way magazine. He is the author of The Real McCoy: WF McCoy,
Prophet of Ulster-nationalism and a contributor to Tolkein and Politics. He is a keen cyclist with a strong interest in environmental and housing issues. Based in Belfast, he is involved in a number of local community projects.

David Kerr voted to disband the NF in 1989.

Third Way was formed in 1990 so can't be described accurately as an "offshoot". Some members of the Official NF joined Third Way when it was founded. A lot didn't because they didn't accept the policies the new party advocated. People who were not members of the ONF also joined Third Way on its founding.

David Kerr has never tried to hide his involvement in Third Way. It was printed on his election address as you can see from another post! Vote For Yourself were right to ignore calls to disassociate themselves from David.

Third Way seeks members from all ethnic and religious communities. It has made this quite clear over the years. It rejects racism and division.

Third Way has made statements in favour of asylum seekers and the rights of Muslims persecuted by the US and UK establishment. It's policy of controlled, non-racist immigration is moderate and fair-minded.

Some people seem to want to live in a time-warp of the 1970s or 1980s. Nostalgia is the British disease!
