Background

The Shell to Sea campaign in gaining ground as thousands take to the streets across Ireland (Ballina this Saturday, 2pm) protesting, picketing and boycotting Shell and Statoil stations.

The Rossport 5 are still in prison for preventing illegal construction work on their land and construction is still planned to pipe up to 20 Billion Euros worth of gas through high pressure pipelines, over fragile bogland to one of Europe's large gas refineries in scenic North Mayo.

The government have given permission for this dangerous project and have therefore endagered local lives and the environment. They have also negotiated a giveaway deal which means the Irish people will see little or no direct benefit from our own natural resources.

Isn't Paul Durcan the Poet?
Mark Durkan is the leader of the SDLP. Unless of course he is now doing a Michael D on it.
