Distortion of Thought. Drugs a Social Problem in need of informed input to gain impact

category national | crime and justice | opinion/analysis author Tuesday November 15, 2005 22:08author by Michelle Clarke - Social Justice and Ethics

This year, 18 people are dead, and so many friends, family and people are affected. Last year, it was 8 deaths in a turf war. The turf war is territory and the war relates to the sale of illegal drugs that destroy peoples' lives.

I believe in everybody having a degree of self reliance in and input to halting this plague of mind distortion so called pleasure.

The articles in New Scientist are worth a read. This week's article is second from the bottom.....the title is what motivates me to write, the remainder of my comment is about contextualising the effects of drugs on long term and health and in particular the consequences of mental health problems as a direct consequence of addiction. Let the children know. Why don't we have some for of game that shows you how unpleasant it is when your mind goes ary.....

'Knowledge is no load'., a quotation used by a wise old Judge born in 1870's.

Today, thankfully our Gardai together with those from abroad, have successfully found large stashes......Long may this work continue.

Ecstacy, drugs can be suffice to cause the precipitating event into Mental Health crises.......Get the message across through education. As a bipolar person with Anxiety and then ABI all I can say is to inform people and contextualise.

'It was the onset of a mysterious numbness that crept into my whole being, caused me to want to die, closed down all my connections with the basic ingredients of life: COLOUR, ACTIVITY, CONVERSATION AND RELATIONSHIPS..I could not feel the wind on my face, the hand that clasped mine, my sister's death from cancer, the ground under my feet, the meaning of anything I heard or read. I was alone in my deep dark tunnel and there was no end to it, it seemed. I SIMPLY SAT THERE - MUTE, PITIABLE AND WASTED'

Martin Buber, Jeweish Theologian
'All suffering prepares the soul for vision'
