Rossport Solidarity Camp Fundraiser Show in Cruiscin Lan, Cork.

ROSSPORT SOLIDARITY CAMP FUNDRAISER
FUNBOBBY, THE VITAL SPARK, ACT OF PIRACY & CHARLIE DON’T SURF
THE CRUSICIN LAN – THURS MAR 30TH – 9PM - € 5

On Thursday March 30th, Cork will see 4 of Irelands upcoming acts take the stage at the Cruiscin Lan, to raise funds for the Rossport Solidarity Camp. Playing at the show will be Limericks ‘Funbobby’ along side two of Corks more promising acts, ‘The Vital Spark’ and ‘Charlie Don’t Surf’. Also playing on the night will be ‘Act Of Piracy’, an upcoming band from Nenagh, Tipperary, whom we will all be hearing a lot more of in the months to come …

Rossport Solidarity Camp was set up in June 2005 on the route of a proposed pipeline.

The aim of the camp is to lend practical support to the local struggle against a consortium of multinationals; Shell, Statoil and Marathon whom are proposing to build a dangerous and experimental on shore raw gas pipeline and gas refinery in North West Ireland. At 5 times the usual pressure the pipeline would be built over unstable bog land with a history of landslides and in very close proximity to peoples homes. This camp is a tactic for stopping the pipeline and not a place to hang out. The camp has been and is great fun and a source of new friendships, however it also involves a lot of commitment and hard work. Over the summer the camp has taken part in a road blockade, pickets of the Rossport Compound and have organised gatherings with music and talks, actions and street theatre. The camp is organised in a non-hierarchical way, we have regular meetings and everyone is treated as equal regardless of gender, age or experience. Money raised would go towards printing leaflets and posters, buying equipment for the camp, keeping the camp van on the road, funding the camp office, buying good batteries for the camp wind turbine, and similar type things.

Playing at the RSC fundraiser will be Limericks longest going punk band, Funbobby.
Funbobby have managed to play such festivals as the infamous Noize Fest and the now reputable Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin, as well as playing with some of the best national and international acts such as Anti Product, Mika Bomb, 4ft Fingers, Turn, Feverdream and many more… Two of Corks more promising acts will be taking to the stage along side the Limerick men;
The Vital Spark, blending their late 70s post-punk angular guitar with a smear of grunge, were the opening band for the legendary Sultans Of Ping at the Savoy, Cork. Instru-mental-ists, Charlie Don’t Surf, recently toured all over Ireland as the support band for Outonalimb records newest addition, Ten Past Seven, and they will be bringing their ‘Embryo rock space hammer fusion’ to the Crusicin. Also playing on the night will be Act Of Piracy, a hard rock band from Nenagh, Tipperary, whom after a couple of years of inactivity are making a serious come back with their guitar driven fusion of rock, trad and roots. Act Of Piracy were regional finalists at the Get Out Of The Garage competition, and played to hundreds at the Black Box Galway, attracting the attention of many in the music industry.
