Poker Wielding

category national | crime and justice | other press author Wednesday June 28, 2006 19:34author by iosaf Report this post to the editors

Michael Mc dowell wants an all party Dáil discussion on the use of force by people to protect thier homes from intruders. His comments were made public today in response to a story doing the rounds that FG leader Enda Kenny warded off two drugged up muggers who were about to knife him.
Not to be outdone, big swinging Mickey has at last revealed the "poker wielding incident" when at age 19 he held a burglar to his parents house with a poker.

Its part of a PD / FG exchange of little real worth which continues their implosion strategy as transfer of power.

Until of course you see the subtle shift in our national narrative from Shakespearian drama, ( the black / white analogies of Othello & Titus Andronicus [ general Titus on his 38th day but really focussing his ire on the Labour party) to the dramatic works of Christopher Marlowe, the life of Edward 2nd and its introduction of "pokers" into the Western Armoury, remembering that real men used swords and halbards back then. & then of course the memorable "poker wielding incident" between Witgenstein and Popper.
& they will be drained of thier blood for use in future catholic pacifist anti-war rituals.... all above board. within your rights.

* It is my opinion that all citizens ought as part of thier basic education learn self-defence techniques but not only how to defend thier person against attack, but also how to resolve potential conflict situations.

* It is also my opinion that there is little proper reason to sustain the prohibition on the right to bear arms, boobytrap our homes or sew razor blades into our pockets. Its just a question of applied morality, our national debate needs less of the "have a go types" thank you very much. We'd end up with kids getting jarred in the face in pubs if thier culture of acceptable violence is allowed continue!

Michael told TD's :- “I would have used force to prevent him doing further damage to the house,”

Interesting little detail, whereas Enda was defending his person against 2 people with a knife, the young Michael was defending his parent's property. I argue that Enda would have a more moral reason to kick the crap out of the offending gougers than Michael.

Of course proving phsyical prowess isn't really what this all about. Our government ministers are worried that the people who break into your home may be able to sue you after you kick the crap out of them, they also think its unfair that you be jailed if you kick all the crap out of them. This brings us to weighty concerns .-

What is the safe judicial level on kicking the crap out of someone?

As well as what constitutes a home. If your landlord enters your rented property to accost you are you allowed have a go?
If your normal place of abode seems to be a tent on Kildare Street - how livid can you get?
If you discover your intruder at the point of breaking your window or door but not with any actual harm to property done, are you in your rights to pursue said tresspasser into your garden or yard and pulverise him or her there?
If you're slow on loading your ammunition, how far down the road can a thwarted tresspasser or burglar be before you peppering their arse with leadshot is considered permissable?

On the 25th of October, 1946 the two Viennese Philosophers Ludwig Wittgenstein and Karl Popper accepted an invitation from the Cambridge University Moral Sciences Club. It ended in the
"poker incident".
read David Edmonds and John Eidinow: Wittgenstein's Poker: The Story of a Ten-Minute Argument Between Two Great Philosophers, 2001. Short biographies of Wittgenstein and Karl Popper, and the social and philosophical issues which led to a famous 10-minute confrontation in Cambridge in 1946. ISBN 0066212448.
fascinating stuff.

If I ever catch either of these two fuckers Mc dowell or Kenny in my back yard - I'll skull them.
