Chavez gets go ahead to join Arab League at last.

category international | miscellaneous | other press author Friday July 21, 2006 18:32author by iosaf Report this post to the editors

"peace in the region"

At long last, the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela will take its place at the League of Arab states.
This is a diplomatic coup for the Latin American state, considering its not arabic or even remotely Islamic.

Only a great leader such as Hugo Chavez and his minister for African affairs Reinaldo Bolivar could have achieved such. Though detractor are quick to point out that Venezuela will at first only be an "observer state" at the League's meetings and as such won't have any power to vote or present resolutions - but the important news is this :- Hugo Chavez will get to stand in the family photos.

Hugo greets his arabic brother Amr Moussa (or it might have been Ahmed Benhelli) [they all look alike] in Caracas last Tuesday.

On a serious note, analysts see this as the opening move of new attempts to create a "non-alligned block" within multi-state organisations which work in concerted effort even at the UN. This idea was first put forward by Iosaf (me) in early 2006. I think closer co-operation from kuala lumpur to the Andes will help fix the price of oil and allow for the chinese to help people like the Bolivians exploit thier natural resources at a price which globally yields more benefit to more poor people.

* Ireland is not in the League of Arab states.
