by Dominic Carroll - Anti-War Ireland
Preliminary Statement
Anti-War Ireland welcomes the acquittal in Dublin of the Pitstop Ploughshares defendants, who had been on trial for unlawful damage to a US military plane at Shannon Airport.
Anti-War Ireland has consistently argued that the actions of those involved in the disabling of the warplane were commendable and inspirational.
The verdict amounts to a blow to the US war machine in Ireland, and a rejection of the collaboration of the Irish government.
Anti-War Ireland reiterates the demand that Irish facilities be denied to the US military, which continues to wreak havoc in Iraq.
Anti-War Ireland calls on anti-war activists and organisations to step up the campaign against the militarisation of Irish airports.
