FIGHTING, FOR A CHANGE
SIPTU GENERAL SECRETARY ELECTION

Des Derwin Supporters Meeting

8.00 p.m., Thursday 18th July, 2002

Teachers Club, 36, Parnell Square, Dublin.

· For real trade unionism and an end to partnership with the rich and powerful.

· For an end to wage restraint and for the right of members to lodge and pursue substantial claims against their own employers.

· For public sector members to be able to reject the Benchmarking report and seek better deals.

· For democracy in SIPTU and the restoration of the members' vote for the National Executive Council.

· For repeal of the restrictions of the 1990 Industrial Relations Act.

· For the legal right to trade union recognition.

· For a real recruitment drive

· For a halt to privatisations

· For an active campaign for greatly improved health and social services and action against health cuts.

· For full support for all members resisting job losses and an immediate increase in statutory redundancy payments to three and a half weeks per year of service.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR CHANGE STARTS HERE.

It is important that the first meeting of the campaign be as big and as broadly representative as possible. The foundations of a professional and wide-reaching campaign, reaching every region, every SIPTU workplace and the media, need to be laid down. Come along and we'll get the best result possible. There are ten weeks to go and then a three-week ballot. We need to discuss the organisation and content of the campaign. Your suggestions and ideas will be welcome.

Des Derwin

President, Electronics and Engineering Branch.
