On Saturday 13th October a memorial will be unveiled commemorating the role of the Irishmen from Belfast who joined the International Brigades and fought in defence of the Spanish Republic during the civil war of 1936-39, as well as the men and women who took a stand against the fascism and supported the Republic in whatever way they could.
The memorial is the culmination of work carried out by the International Brigade Commemoration Committee in Belfast over the past two years, and will be unveiled by Bob Doyle, the last surviving Irish veteran of the International Brigades.
