Demonstration in Solidarity with the People of Gaza

Limerick Demonstration in Solidarity with the Besieged People of Gaza.

The Limerick branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign will hold a demonstration in solidarity with the people of Gaza on Saturday 26th January 2008 at the constituency office of Willie O’Dea, Minister for Defence, 2 Glenview Gardens, Farranshone between 1.30 and 2.30. The branch will be asking visiting constituents to hand in a letter voicing their concern at the dire situation of the Palestinians in Gaza.
The ongoing and brutal siege of Gaza must end now and Israel must comply with international law which outlaws the collective punishment of civilian populations. Israel is also in breach of its responsibilities as an occupying power. By cutting off the fuel and power supplies to Gaza, Israel is ensuring that Palestinians there, already living in desperate circumstances, are in serious danger of ill health, hunger and death.
The Limerick branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is calling on the Minister to insist that Israel abide by international law, obey the 4th Geneva Convention, abide by the rules governing occupying powers and end its slow genocide of the people of Gaza. The call is also for EU governments to demand that Israel be suspended from the EuroMed Agreement as it is in breach of article 2 of the agreement. The people of Gaza cannot be abandoned to be bombed and starved into submission by the Israeli state while the world watches on.
