some comments on the situation
President Sarkozy who in asking for the release of Ms Ingrid Betancourt from captivity
made a remark that shows his incredible lack of diplomacy and was probably why his
spouse led the march for her release in Paris today. He said that if she dies then FARC
will be 'responsible for the death of a woman'. Many government leaders are so responsible,
but to use the media to allow such a statement travel like a virus through our world
was badly judged and dangerous. Ms Betancourt has endured six years of separation from
her mother and her children and is unwell, being on hunger strike.
Everyone wants Ingrid freed.

The Sarkozy remarks are printed in the 'Weekend' section of the Irish Times and have been
diseminated , doubtless, around the globe. they are badlly chosen and do a disservice
to someone who has and is suffering greatly. its not a 'fashion' issue to make a derogatory
statement at a vulnerable time. It was misjudged, misguided and wrong.

Wish her well.

wonder what they thought of his stupid comment.
Why condemn Mr. Sarkozy for speaking the truth? That poor lady is being held against her will by FARC terrorists. If anything happens to her, then her blood will be on FARS's hands. The French government should not negotiate with FARC and promise concessions.. Time to send in the Foreign Legion says I! No surrender to terrorists!
Your pseud is offensive, now if you seek a testosterone outlet and want to play with guns
that really is your biz- but you have been trolling other threads too and yer comment has nothing
to do with the report.
Sarkozy is to many a joke, he is not a diplomat.
The attempted negotiations that include geneva/spain and france are ongoing. for one
of the heads of such negotiations to victimise a woman of dignity and strength for his
own political end shows quite clearly what a prat he truly is.
Betancourt has endured six years of hostage life and someone squeezes Sarko's
breakfast juice and irons his goddam shirts, he should go to 'President school'
and learn to act in a statesman like manner.
a genuine prat!
The people who are attempting to talk to the rebels are abandoning the mission,
Geneva/France/Spain are involved in working together- unfortunately Sarkozy's self-publicising
gung-ho ego-trip shite is not helping anyone (and obviously thats why Spanish and
Swiss negotiators were brought in)
Ingrid is a private individual, who many will say has endured a tremendous amount
of suffering, Sarkozy did her a disservice and He should apologise to her family.
numerous coverages abound:-

The woman is not a pawn for the sarkozy interests in South America, the situation is
more complex than that, the guardian feed article discusses the political complications.
