activists handed out nuts to advertise elections

Natural Resources Minister Eamon Ryan joined the Green Team, a group of Green Party activists at the Electric Picnic recently to hand out postcards advertising the party.

They also gave thousands of nuts to raise awareness about the upcoming local and European elections.

The Green Team hope people will plant the nuts to grow hazel trees, which it is hoped will help mitigate the effects of the earth warming up through fossil fuel use and the severe changes that will inevitably ensue.

Some critics of the Green Party in Ireland have found it difficult to take seriously the party's statements of concern about climate change while they are part of a government which is overseeing the construction of a large motorway in Meath, airport expansion in Dublin, a huge natural gas refinery in Mayo, and many other projects around the country which will have a negative effect on Ireland's carbon footprint.

Nevertheless, the Minister for Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan of the Green Party, is on record as saying that climate change is the most serious issue the country has ever had to deal with in its history.
